Erica Zigelman Principal

About

For nearly 35 years, Erica Zigelman has aided students as an administrator and tenured teacher within the New York City Public School system. Currently, Erica Zigelman serves as a principal at Middle School 322 in Washington Heights. Since joining the institution in 2005, she has enhanced its offerings in several ways. As a principal, she has created after-school programs, a Saturday academy, a school uniform policy, and accelerated programs for gifted students. Additionally, she has increased parent-teacher involvement.

Ms. Zigelman’s achievements have bolstered Middle School 322’s standing in the public education system. The school was invited to join the Region 10 Middle School Think Tank Network, an association of middle schools that devises alternative academic techniques. Additionally, Middle School 322 has received LTE/SIFE grants to support English language learner programs, a “Tween to Teen” grant to encourage student social and emotional growth, and an iZone grant to facilitate personalized learning. Furthermore, the Office of English Language Learners awarded Middle School 322 a $20,000.00 grant to to establiah a Dual LAnguage Program. Now in it's second year, this program has been very successful attratcting higher performing ELLS to Middle School 322.

As an izone/iLearn school, we have been able to provide a "Blended Learning" approach to education, thus engaging our students in a more rigorous manner. Students are able to personalize their learning through our iLearn Blackboard Suire and are held accountable for completing their assignemnets at their own pace.

In 2008, Erica Zigelman was named to the Biltmore Who’s Who of Professionals. She also won a Principal’s Performance Bonus for School Improvement and Exemplary Student Achievement from the Council of School Supervisors and Administrators.
